A Look Inside

Below is a cover picture from the manuscript. That's just a fancy word for it's the pages I actually wrote and drew on to make my book. I will be showing you pictures of the manuscript and the book throughout this blog post. Even some peeks at my personal journal!
Each symbol on this Cover Page above means something. The words are Irish: Laidir is Irish. It means Courage. Graimthu is also Irish. It means I love you.
The symbols are Palindromes. They are widely used symbols in the AnnClanns. I almost called these symbols Illuminatees. But then a movie came out using that word so I had to figure something else out.

You can see on the bottom right is a True Eye. Uncail Anwan has one on his staff. He forged it himself. When a Palindrome is forged by a True Heart it has power. The True Eye is supposed to mean Cara Mor is watching. It's supposed to be His Eye. Bottom left is a circlular Palindrome. It's called The Sun and Moon. On the top left you see a simple cross. When you flip a Palindrome over, it's exactly the same. This symbolizes that we are the reflection of Cara Mor. We are made in His Image.
The top right also has a symbol too. That's not a Palindrome. (Well, it actually could be from my previous description). That's the sun. The sun tells time by the position in the sky.
Now, look up a little higher. You see two hands painting. The way I drew it, those hands kind of look like Netri's hands, but they're not. Those hands are actually Limner's hands. Limners are guardians in my book. They are neither spirit or physical, but both. They live in both worlds. Limners are legendary creatures that paint and draw for communication. They don't have a mouth. They are completely silent and peaceful. The legend says they painted the leaves and trees and grass and everything in nature.
Below is what I drew in my notebook/journal years ago. I kind of made this Limner like a spirit, kind of see-through.

Rock Monsters and Limners aren't the only guardians.
Rock Monsters are our best friends. They are just one type of guardian though. They help man survive in a harsh world. They bond to man for life. Their whole being is bent on helping man. If they don't have a bonding with a human, their stone heart will bust in two.
They will die of a broken heart! :(
They protect us. Can you imagine what it was like back in the neolithic time? Short Faced Black Bears, Saber Tooth Cats, The Dire Wolf are all creatures that actually existed back then in real life!
I spent 7yrs researching and creating this wonderful book for you! It's full of illustrations that will knock your socks off. I'm an artist first and I believe a good fiction should have illustrations.

If you've been reading my blog, you know a little about Netri. You know that he is small for his age of 12 but he's very smart and brave. He's going to an amazing school that has been his dream since he was little. Largely because of his Uncle Anwan. (Netri calls him Uncail Anwan. Another Irish word). Uncle Anwan has been his mentor his whole life. He has guided Netri and nurtured his discovery of his Voxendo inside.
Netri has very strong voxendo. It's something inside that's very powerful. It's inner strength and confidence in yourself. It's qualities posessed that are like Cara Mor. Authority, Peace, strength, courage and love.
Here's how I came up with this;
Accendo is Latin for kindle, illuminate, enflame.
Vox vocus means power, right, authority in Latin.
Succendo, also Latin, means Illuminate or set a fire from below. I imagine that this power comes from down inside and it's a fire inside.
I combined these words and made up the word: Voxendo.
When I first started writing my book, I actually called this voxendo power, Avatar. But, then two movies came out and that was it. I had to figure out another name for this power inside. In my notebook/journal, I still have the word Avatar in there, but it's crossed out and Voxendo is added. I really like the word I made up!
In my book, Cara Mor means the Great Friend. It's actually Irish for Great Friend. I chose this name for God because God is our friend. Cara Mor has given the characters in my book Voxendo. This is so much more than previously mentioned. It's also the power to command Lurkers.
Lurkers are demons. They are spirits that feed on the Voxendo inside. Even if it's not believed in, it's still there. These Lurkers will attach themselves to a human and cause the person great harm. Sometimes it's giving them bad thoughts. Sometimes these Lurkers control a person's emotions and give them deep sorrow inside. Sometimes Lurkers cause the person pain like headaches and other pains. Usually the person will just be sick when they have a Lurker on them. But if a person would use the Voxendo inside, all they have to do is command the Lurker to get gone. The Lurker would have to obey. But, alas, the people don't know so they stay bound by the Lurkers.

Below is Netri's house. He lives in Neolithic Ireland. That means it's way, way back in the prehistoric times. The Neolithic period is in the Bronze age in our history. Archaeologists have dug up many artifacts that show how these people lived. They call it the Bronze age because Bronze is a material they used a lot back then.
Do you notice something about the picture below? The text is hand written. I hand wrote every word in my book. Since it's actually Netri's journal, I thought it would be fun and authentic to hand write it. Also, I couldn't find a computer program that would allow me to put my words inside the illustrations just how I wanted it. But my hand could do it! A writer has to go with what they know.

Below is Uncail Anwan at his house.
Uncle Anwan is a very wise man. He is very old but doesn't show it because back then people lived to be about 4 or 5 hundred years old! That's right! Crazy! The People of the AnnClann actually live that long!
Uncail Anwan is always teaching and encouraging others to have faith. He is a Faith Giver. He is part of the Order of Faith Givers. His job is to help people find their faith. He has great Voxendo inside of him. He has discovered that if you use your Voxendo, it's like exercising a muscle. It gets stronger. He's really smart!
I like writing for YA, or young adults, because it's so easy breasy. The plots are basic and the descriptions are imaginative. I don't like complicated. If a plot is too complicated I will throw the book.
Ok, I would never really throw a book. I will put it down carefully and never pick it up again. I just love books and would never disrespect them in such a way as to throw them. Yet, I think a lot of adults feel the same way as I do. Otherwise, why are the YA books so popular nowadays?
I wanted this book to be something kids and adults alike can enjoy!
It's clean content with lots of adventure! I love adventure. I love fantasy. ❤ So I combined all of these elements to make my book. Most important, it's clean content! I can't stress that enough because I don't like dirty content. I don't think it belongs in a YA book at all. I don't like the influences I see out there today. It's not good for kids. They need something wholesome and fun and intriguing. Our kids today have many, many things going on in their lives that are horrible and dirty. They don't need it in their literature. YA books should be an escape from reality. They should tantalize the imagination! Most kids today are wise to the world, but they don't need that crap in their literature. I hope my book will encourage kids to look inside themselves and find their inner strength.
